The weather in Kuwait is great for outdoor fun from October till May. Our children need to run and play in fresh air and sunshine, and open spaces. Nearly every community in Kuwait has a park and plans are being made to create more but finding well developed, safe and child-friendly parks and playgrounds can be a challenge.

Abraj Park in Adailiya
Located in Adailiya, block 4, this lovely community park and playground is perfect for a day outdoors. The playground has been well maintained and is covered so that kids can get sunshine but not too much. There is large grassy area and plenty of room to run around. The park is dominated by the gorgeous water towers and just around the corner from Starbucks and the coop.

Anjafa Beach / Park
Lovely covered playground on the seaside next to Anjafa Beach. Located in Salwa, on Al-Tawa'en Street. (see map) Includes a slide, play house/climbing structures. There is also exercise equipment and plenty of grass for picnics. When the tide is out, take the kids down to the beach to pick up seaglass, smooth stones and seashells.

Al Shaheed Park
Located in Kuwait City, this newly opened memorial park is a beautiful and relaxing space though not really kid friendly. There are no playgrounds, children are not allowed on the grass, no bikes and no picnics allowed. But if you like to walk/jog or spend time in a beautiful setting, Al Shaheed is a great destination. There's a new Habitat museum, though only open in the evenings on weekends. In Phase 2, don't forget to check out the dancing lights show at the lake eveyr half hour starting in the evening. There are also lots of fun sculptures and iconic buildings from Kuwait past and present for the kids to explore.

Bayan Park
Located in block 4, this beautiful garden oasis is a quiet, gated park surrounded by trees. There are climbing structures and slides. Not covered but some shade though the playground area isn't good for for toddlers or young children. Large expanses of green, picnic tables, walking track and two pitches - one green, one dirt - for football and soccer. Check here for photos, map and directions.

Boulevard Park
​The new massive Boulevard park and shopping complex in Salmiya is definitely worth a visit. There are two awesome playgrounds (not covered) for the kids, walking tracks, a small pond (possibly with paddle boats), a train to ride, shops, restaurants and more. Kids are not allowed to ride bikes/scooters but they can run, play and there are also facilities for sports activities as well.

The Corniche
The Corniche from Marina Crescent to the Scientific Center is a lovely stretch to walk and there are scattered small play areas, grassy verges and sections of beach for the children to explore. One of Kuwait Moms Guide's favorite early morning spots. Posted signs now allow bikes and kids can bike, roller blade or ride scooters along the walking paths. The playgrounds between Marina Walk and the Scientific Center also tend to be better maintained. (None of these are covered) Don't miss the spinning climbing triangle (also called a Witch's Hat), climbing wall and children's creek on the seaside across from Amro bin al Aas Street junction.

Dahiya Abdullah al Salem Park
Next to the famous local landmark, the Fatima Mosque, is a lovely and very clean park. The park includes a well kept climbing structure with slides (not covered) as well as a wide grassy lawn perfect for morning picnics. There are also enough sidewalks for kids to ride bikes and its well off the road so they can roam freely. Located in Block 3 just past the gas station. Map

Egaila Beach
Along the Gulf road, Egaila Beach has open grassy spaces and an outdoor children’s play area. There is an entrance fee and the beach can become especially crowded on the weekends and evenings. Great for early morning time spent outside.

Green Island
On the Gulf Road, between Salmiya and Kuwait City, the Green Island is a great weekend destination for spending a day outside. There is an artificial lake, restaurants and cafes, a Roman amphitheater, picnic areas and several kids play areas. You can rent bikes or take the trolley and there are several entertainment activities/events held there throughout the year. Map and directions.

Kaifan park (Al Andalus Park)
Located in Kaifan in block 7, this park includes a covered playground with slides, climbing, swings and a merry-go-round. It also has water fountains, a football pitch, walking track and lots of green lawn for an early morning picnic. Kuwait Moms Guide loves this for early Friday mornings when the weather turns cold and the kids need some extra space to run and play. Kaifan is located off the 3rd Ring Road just before you get to Shuwaikh. Bring a picnic and a blanket. But we would advise against pets as this is a neighborhood park and some local residents might not appreciate dogs in the park. Map

Khaldiya community park
Located in Block 1 on Tarablass (Tripoli) street, this lovely community park is well maintained with climbing structure, swings and seesaws for kids. The play area is covered. There is also a small walking tracks, lovely benches and some grassy lawns to picnic on.

Mishref (Oasis) walking track and playgrounds - Unfortunately this park remains in unsafe conditions though it is still used by many for evening walks and bike rides. Part of the Mishref pedestrian walkway, the playground area is located on the southeast corner in block 5 and can be seen from the junction where Fahaheel Expressway (Highway 30) and Sixth Ring Road meets. The playgrounds are in poor disrepair and are not recommended for kids. Just at the entrance, however, is a covered playground for kids (its on the main Mishref road, not inside the big park.) Nuzha parks
There are two lovely community parks with playgrounds in Nuzha, just off the Third Ring Road. The first is on the corner of the Third Ring Road and Mohammed bin Laaboun Street in Block 3. There is a small park, playground next to the Nuzha coop and also a Starbucks for moms who want a coffee. In Block 1, on Mohammed Saleh Al Homaizi Street just behind the Omar bin Saad School is another community park with playground.

Rawda park
Known as Jamal Abdul Nasser Park, it is located in Rawda it has several playgrounds for children with slides and climbing structures and swings, large grassy areas and a sandlot. Not covered. Located just off the 45 at the corner behind the McDonald's inside the Rawda residential area (located between the 3rd and 4th Ring Roads near Hawally. Find a map here.

Rumaithiya Park
Located in block 6 just off the main road, this neighborhood park has everything you need for a picnic and a playdate. The playground has swings (including one for babies), a climbing structure and slides and riding rockers. (Not covered) There is also a large grassy lawn, football pitch and walking track that encircles the park. The location is great for moms who live in Rumaithiya, Salwa, Salmiya or other areas close by. Its a small park but lovely and surrounded by shade trees with lots of grass (that may change, however, during the summer time.) Map.

Shaab residential park
Shaab residential park is a favorite of Kuwait Moms Guide. This small corner park at the entrance to Shaab residential is a great place for a play date. The playground is not covered but there are lots of shade trees and it includes a climbing structure, swings and slides that are age appropriate as well as a duck pond and open grassy areas for kids to run around. There is also a walking track and exercise equipment for moms. Shaded and surrounded by grass, the park is well maintained, has its own parking, is just down the street from the coop, McDonald's and a coffee shop and is conveniently located just off the Fahaheel expressway. Salwa parks
Salwa park straddles blocks 10 and 11 in Salwa close to the Sixth Ring Road exit. The park sits behind the Kuwait English School and includes several climbing structures, slides and an open grassy area as well as football (soccer) courts. Burger King and Taco Bell also recently opened up in the park and there is a small playground for kids. But the park overall is a bit run down, some of the play equipment is damaged, it is often dirty and not well maintained and there are no swings for kids. Directions and map.
There is another small relatively new community park in block 1, street 4, just behind The Sunshine School. It has a playground, soccer pitch and a walking track. There is also a water feature that resembles a wide and rather deep river. Its unclear if this will eventually be filled with water.

Sabah Al Salem playground
Located in Block 1 just next to the Abulfadl Alabbas Ibn Ali Ibn Abi Talib Mosque is a small covered playground and walking track. Relatively new, the playground is clean and includes slides and climbing structures. You can see the playground from the roundabout where Roads 3 and 4 intersect.


South Khaitan park and playground
The South Khaitan park is a gated garden with plenty of parking. There’s several play structures with slides, climbing and steps and grassy lawns for picnics. Though there are several trees, there’s not much in the way of shade around the play areas so you’ll need to visit in the early morning or in the evenings at least until October. To get there, take the 50 heading toward the airport and turn right at Sabih Barrak Al Sabih Street. Then turn right into Block 3 on Street 38 and follow for about half a mile. Souq Sharq play area
Outside, next to Debenhams is a small play area for kids, with a climbing structure and slides and small, grassy verge. Great for the kids to play with nanny supervision while moms are shopping.

Souq Mubarakiya
The old souq in downtown Kuwait City had two spacious and well equipped outdoor but covered play areas near the food court. Sadly the play ground for younger children has been completely removed. (Am hoping they will renovate and replace) and the playground for older kids now has broken equipment with parts left lying all over the place. I cannot recommend either for safe playing but if you do go to Souq al Mubarakiya, the cafes are still a great lunch option and there's plenty of small shops to check out.

Touristic Garden
Located in Jleeb Al Shuyoukh, the Touristic Garden is a great place during fall and spring for a day’s outing. Includes a Roman amphitheater, grassy laws, flower beds and shrubs and perfect for picnics or a stroll. Age appropriate play structures for children but not toddlers. Entry is free all week except for official holidays, celebration and conferences days. Touristic Garden is open daily from 4pm to midnight summer and from 3pm to 10:30pm in winter. Wahran Park, Shamiya
Located in block 2 of Shamiya, Wahran park has a small but well maintained playground as well as a walking path and grass for picnics.

Yarmouk Recycled Park
Made of recycled products, the Yarmouk park in block 2 is a beautiful example of recycling. It has a playground, trees made from used tires, art installations including a Mona Lisa built from old computer parts and grassy lawns. A must see and a great way to introduce the idea of recycling to your children.
